U Retreat, located in Adama, Ethiopia, showcases a design ethos deeply rooted in local sustainability. The design team's primary goal centered on utilizing indigenous materials and vernacular craftsmanship techniques.

Drawing inspiration from historic construction methods, the resort incorporates terracotta blocks, thatched roofs, timber elements, and volcanic stone from Erta Ale, seamlessly blending tradition with a contemporary architectural language. The main building encompasses the lobby, restaurant, bar, spa, and event space, all overlooking the central swimming pool. With 24 bungalows, 4 junior suites, and 2 presidential suites, the retreat offers diverse accommodations.

The lobby design creates a captivating arrival experience, featuring a local coffee corner and a ceiling adorned with colorful weaving installations, highlighting Ethiopia's rich textile heritage. The bungalows, designed with natural elements like wooden floors and bamboo ceilings, show an earthy yet vibrant ambiance, with each room type distinguished by a unique color scheme.
